You may hate me after reading the following question. Still:
Do you ever get bored with Whole Foods?
Over a year’s worth of takeout lunches, that place can grow truly dull! Same salad dressings, same deli dishes, $2.50 yogurts… While it’s a reasonable lunchtime option, lately I’ve dreaded pushing into the body wall constituting their South Lake Union quarters. Also, the salad bar is extremely competitive.
It’s with much relief, then, that I can report the SLU arrival of West Coast vegan fast-food chain the Veggie Grill. They opened on Wednesday, and my experience there Friday was stellar. The staff members were friendly, ordering process smooth, and grub fresh and satisfying.
On my first visit I was curious to see if they could jazz up your run-of-the mill soup-and-salad combo. Lo and behold:
And other articles have been lauding the flavorful, protein-rich mock meats.
Since I work nearby, future plans–of which there are many–include bingeing on sweet-potato Chili Cheese Fries, the Chipotle BBQ sandwich, and perhaps even Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. (I’ve been coming ’round to cauliflower thanks to this recipe from Cara’s Cravings.)
And, if they offer wifi, office hours may not be out of the question. I’ll get back to you on that one.
