Slate Coffee Cafe & Aeropress Brewing

Slate Coffee Cafe - Ballard

Latte love at the new Slate Coffee Cafe in Ballard.

A recent NYTimes article talks about the custom-brewing movement and how coffee shops in the city are beginning to offer customers such choices as Chemex and Aeropress brewing.

Little does the Old Gray Lady know, I Aeropress brewed in New York in 2011 for a week. You could call it a pop-up operation.

For anyone who likes a reliable cup of coffee when on the road or at home, I’d emphatically recommend you buy a $30 Aeropress. I’ve been using it almost every day for three years now and still can’t get enough. (Lovely how caffeine addiction works, isn’t it?)

Not only can it be sipped as you prepare for a day of sightseeing, but buying your beans nearby to get a taste for the local brew is also a fine option. It also just saves you the trouble of a lousy cup of coffee, which, true to Seattle-princess stereotype, does put a damper on my day. Never forget: Good coffee is a right!

  1. Totally thought of you when I read that article yesterday. You’re such a trendsetter! You totally scooped the NY Times.

  2. 🙂 Sorry, East Coast!

I did go to a Stumptown in Brooklyn on that trip, but it was crazy expensive! Good thing I had brought Vita beans from the other coast, whew.
